American singer-songwriter Cyrus, 31, is known for her popular songs “Flowers,” “Wrecking Ball,” and “Party In The U.S.A.”
She became a teen idol in the 2000s when she landed the lead role in the Disney Channel TV series Hannah Montana. She is the daughter of country artist Billy Ray Cyrus.
In 2009, she got to meet Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, who gained fame for playing Gale Hawthorne in the Hunger Games movie trilogy.
They were one of the most well-known celebrity couples in Hollywood for many years, but Cyrus has now disclosed that she lied to her ex-husband following their divorce.
While filming the coming-of-age love drama The Last Song, Cyrus and Hemsworth got to know one another. The couple announced their romance shortly after the film’s conclusion.
The relationship between the two would be turbulent, coming and going.
To the astonishment of all, Cyrus proposed to Liam in 2012 and told People magazine, “I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam.”
However, breakup rumors surfaced shortly after this thrilling update, and the couple decided to postpone their wedding in April 2013 despite never having given an official date.
At the time, a source disclosed: “They’re still engaged and living together. They just realized that there is no rush with the wedding and that it’s better that they wait a bit.”
The site would learn from a second source that Cyrus and Hemsworth desired to “figure out their problems” before getting married.
Following months of speculation, the two unfollowed one another on Instagram in September 2013, and two days later, they announced the breakup of their engagement.
Hemsworth and Cyrus parted ways during the ensuing years. Then, there were rumors that the two were back together in January 2016.
The singer of “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” would verify this on Instagram by posting a picture of herself sporting her engagement ring.
In a Billboard interview, Cyrus revealed that she turned her attention to herself after their 2013 breakup, saying, “I needed to change so much. And changing with someone else not changing like that is too hard.”
On December 26, 2018, Cyrus posted a black-and-white picture of herself and Hemsworth kissing on Instagram to confirm rumors that they were married.
But in August 2019, a spokesman for Cyrus informed People that, barely months after their marriage was confirmed, “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time.”
Fans have conjectured throughout the years that Cyrus has alluded to her relationship with The Witcher star in a handful of her songs.
“Flowers,” a highly successful commercial single and critically acclaimed song, is one of the more noteworthy ones.
Fans were persuaded that the song was about Hemsworth by the first line, which, according to Billboard, seemed to allude to the couple’s Malibu house being destroyed in the Woosley Fire of 2018.
Cyrus sings: “We were good, we were gold / Kind of dream that can’t be sold / We were right till we weren’t / Built a home and watched it burn.”
The pop icon has opened up about their time together, even if it’s highly speculative as to whether she sings about Hemsworth in her songs.
Cyrus said that she had lied to Hemsworth for almost ten years about being a virgin during an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast.
The singer of “7 Things” claimed that to “not seem like a loser,” she informed her ex that she had lost her virginity to someone else.
“He said, ‘Oh, who have you had s** with?’ And I couldn’t think of anyone, so I just made somebody up that I knew but we had never actually had s** before,” she recalled.
But she was compelled to be honest when Cyrus turned 24.
The pop star said: “[Hemsworth’s] friend ended up marrying him, and then it was like, ‘Oh now my friend is marrying someone you’ve hooked up with?’
“So then when I was, like, 24, I had to say that I lied when I was 16. It was a lie that I held onto for, like, 10 years.”
