Ellen DeGeneres Reveals When She’ll Retire From Show Business

The Ellen DeGeneres Show, a well-liked daytime TV program that incorporated humor, celebrities, and human interest tales, was presented by the 66-year-old DeGeneres.

After 19 seasons and two years of accusations of harassment, discrimination, and a hostile work culture, the talk show was canceled in 2022.

Even though DeGeneres was not mentioned in the claims, she has since been “canceled” and mainly kept out of the public eye.

However, she has returned to the comedy scene recently with Ellen’s Last Stand… Up Tour. The presenter has revealed that her next Netflix special will be her final work on television or in a motion picture, in case the title doesn’t give it away.

DeGeneres affirmed her choice by telling her audience when her career will officially end.

A startling investigation into The Ellen Show was made public in two BuzzFeed exposés in 2020. The allegations included a poisonous work atmosphere, sexual misbehavior, and harassment.

Both past and present employees were interviewed for the article.

BuzzFeed was informed by a former employee that “be kind” bullshit only occurs when cameras are rolling. Everything is merely for display.

“I know they give money to people and help them out, but it’s for show.”

Another claimed: “I think the executive producers surround her [DeGeneres] and tell her, ‘Things are going great, everybody’s happy,’ and she just believes that, but it’s her responsibility to go beyond that.”

The comic, whose brand is all about kindness, was not found to have engaged in toxic behavior by the investigation; but, at the same time, a comedian named Kevin T. Porter’s X (previously Twitter) thread went viral.

He tweeted: “Right now we all need a little kindness. You know, like Ellen Degeneres always talks about!”

“She’s also notoriously one of the meanest people alive.”

Porter told Metro a year after the thread went viral that even though X is “all unverifiable to a degree,” people were driven to take it seriously by the “consistency” of the accusations made.

Variety revealed that three of the program’s senior producers were fired from the syndicated strip distributed by Warner Bros. after the exposés and accusations.

“I learned that things happened here that should never have happened,” DeGeneres said to the audience on the show, according to The Guardian.

“I know that I’m in a position of privilege and power, and I realize that with that comes responsibility, and I take responsibility for what happens at my show.”

DeGeneres told The Hollywood Reporter that she needs to be “challenged” with something fresh as a “creative person” after The Ellen Show eventually concluded.

According to reports, DeGeneres made light of the situation during her stand-up comeback.

“For those of you keeping score, this is the second time I’ve been kicked out of show business…Eventually, they’re going to kick me out for a third time because I’m mean, old, and gay,” she said.

The 66-year-old also revealed that she makes jokes about what happened to her, but it was truly devastating, as a coping mechanism. “Honestly, I’m making jokes about what happened to me but it was devastating, really.”

“I just hated the way the show ended. I love that show so much and I just hated that the last time people would see me is that way.”

A fan asked DeGeneres if she had any upcoming TV or movie projects during a Q&A following one of the stand-ups, to which she replied, “Um, no. This is the last time you’re going to see me, after my Netflix special, I’m done.”

The comedian and her spouse, Portia de Rossi, shared an Instagram photo in which DeGeneres gave more details about when her career might end.

She penned: “I will be celebrating my 16th wedding anniversary on the 16th of August in Minneapolis filming my final Netflix special. What a day!!!”

“I’m so lucky to be loved by the most amazing person I’ve ever met. I love you, Portia. You’re my everything.”
