Haliey Welch, known as Hawk Tuah girl, might be seeing her fame fade after a lackluster appearance at an Alabama music festival.
The 22-year-old became a viral sensation this summer when she used the phrase ‘hawk tuah’ to describe spitting in a sexual context during a street interview.
Since then, she has been a prominent figure online.
However, her recent appearance at the Rock The South Festival has sparked concerns that her popularity might be declining.
She was invited on stage to introduce performers Warren Zeiders and Jelly Roll, but the reception from the crowd was tepid.
Welch tried to energize the audience by exclaiming, ‘Let’s hear it for Warren Zeiders and Jelly Roll!’
Unfortunately, her enthusiasm was not reciprocated, as the crowd showed little interest in cheering along.
This lukewarm response has led some to speculate that Welch’s moment in the limelight might be coming to an end.
‘Ugh can we be done with this girl now,’ one person commented. ‘I think people are over her already,’ another added.
‘She was June. This is July. Time’s up,’ remarked a third, while another noted, ‘Shows how quick the viral flame can burn out.’
‘She was funny for a minute but this is just stupid now,’ a person expressed. ‘Honestly it was over done after the third time hearing it. Time to move on,’ said another.
Some defended Welch, expressing enthusiasm for her stage presence and applauding her efforts to capitalize on her sudden fame.
“She’s much better to watch than the political bulls**t we’ve been looking at. More Hawk Tuah,” one supporter commented.
“What I think is dope is she’s actually shown she’s a good person and done a lot with her 15 mins of fame compared to others we keep making famous for some ungodly reason,” another remarked.
Tennis star Nick Kyrgios also weighed in on Welch’s recent appearance at Jake Paul’s boxing match against Mike Perry.
Posting on X – formerly known as Twitter – Kyrgios wrote: ‘No correlation between fame and actually being decent at something anymore,’ followed by a laughing emoji.
Welch, unfazed by Kyrgios’s criticism, said she doesn’t let negativity affect her.
“Let me put it this way, I don’t wake up and hate on anybody else, I don’t understand why people do that,” she stated in an interview with TMZ.
“They have their own opinion, they’re entitled to it, I don’t care what they think. At all. If they wake up and feel that way, then so be it.”
Since her viral interview, Welch has actively embraced her new public life, from launching merchandise to appearing on stage at a Zach Bryan concert and exploring NYC.
This unexpected interview has kickstarted a profitable career for the Tennessee native, who has signed with The Penthouse management company, helping her secure appearances that reportedly earn her up to $20,000 each, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Jonnie Forster, founder of The Penthouse, revealed that the team is tirelessly working to match Welch with suitable projects for her burgeoning career, ensuring each step is strategically planned.
In a recent collaboration with celebrity TikTok musician Jax Writes Songs, Welch has released a catchy jingle that explains the meaning of ‘hawk tuah.’
