RUSSIA – A cat has been returning on the same spot in Russia for a year now after its owners abandoned her and she has become an online sensation. The lonely kitty was first photographed in 2015 on a manhole cover in Belgorod, in south-western Russia’s Belgorod Oblast region.
The cat has reportedly come back to the same spot everyday since – apparently waiting for its owners to return.
The story of the abandoned cat was posted on the Russian equivalent to Facebook by username: Ostap Zadunayskiy.
He said that he found out that the cat’s original owners used to live nearby but had sold the apartment and left.
Locals told him how they had seen the cat running after its owners as they were off, and that they never returned. Since then, she has been waiting at the same spot ever since, they claimed.
Mr Zadunayskiy said: ‘This is a great example of human meanness and true animal loyalty.’
He also praised many of the locals who continue to feed the cat over the years.
Many Internet commentators quoted from the book The Little Prince, which was written by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, where it says: ‘You become responsible forever for what you’ve tamed.’
However, many people were suspicious of the story, suggesting that the cat only stayed there to be fed every day.
